1 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Southern Illinois University College of
3 Agriculture is conducting a study to determine the potential
4 for using zebra mussels to reduce the odor emanating from
5 animal waste; and
6 WHEREAS, The State is concerned about the effects of
7 animal waste on the ambient air quality in Illinois; and
8 WHEREAS, In particular, proposals to construct
9 large-scale livestock management facilities in this State
10 raise issues concerning the odor from livestock waste
11 generated at those facilities and its impact on the ambient
12 air quality in the areas adjacent to those facilities; and
13 WHEREAS, The General Assembly is interested in measures
14 that will help to ensure that a high ambient air quality is
15 maintained in Illinois; therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
17 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
18 CONCURRING HEREIN, that upon completion of the study by the
19 Southern Illinois University College of Agriculture to
20 determine the potential for using zebra mussels to reduce the
21 odor emanating from animal waste, the Southern Illinois
22 University College of Agriculture shall report the results
23 of the study to the General Assembly; and be it further
24 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
25 delivered to the Dean of the Southern Illinois University
26 College of Agriculture.
