1 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Department of Defense is in the continued
3 process of downsizing and looking for ways to save dollars;
4 and
5 WHEREAS, In the downsizing process they move activities
6 to different bases and construct new and expensive buildings
7 such as they have done at Huntsville, Alabama; and
8 WHEREAS, The Rock Island Arsenal Island located in the
9 Mississippi River between Iowa and Illinois and employing a
10 large number of Illinois residents is a National Historical
11 site with many fine buildings suitable for use; and
12 WHEREAS, The cost of maintaining those buildings will
13 continue and they should be utilized to the maximum
14 consistent with sound economic policy and savings to the
15 citizens of the United States; and
16 WHEREAS, The tens of thousands of square feet of office
17 space available on Rock Island Arsenal Island could
18 accommodate the current mission located in Warren, Michigan,
19 which is located in leased buildings, thereby saving tens of
20 thousands of tax payer dollars; therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
22 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
23 CONCURRING HEREIN, that the Illinois General Assembly hereby
24 urges the Department of Defense and the Congress to maximize
25 the use of the facilities at Rock Island Arsenal by moving
26 missions currently located in leased facilities into the
27 vacant and available buildings at Rock Island; and be it
28 further
29 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
30 forwarded to the President, the Secretary of Defense, the
31 Majority and Minority Leaders of the United States Senate,

2 United States House of Representatives.
