1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Officer Anthony Samfay of the Kankakee Police
4 Department; and
5 WHEREAS, Officer Samfay was fatally shot while making a
6 traffic stop while on duty in Kankakee on Thursday, October
7 10, 1996; his death shall stand as a lasting example of his
8 courage and commitment to serving the people of Kankakee; and
9 WHEREAS, Officer Samfay was a Berwyn resident and former
10 Cicero resident; he was a graduate of Mary Queen of Heaven
11 Elementary School and Morton East High School in Cicero, and
12 attended Sherlock School and earned an associate's degree in
13 law enforcement at Morton College; and
14 WHEREAS, A former dispatcher for the North Riverside
15 Police Department, Anthony Samfay also worked for the Cicero
16 and Maywood Police Departments and North Riverside Park Mall;
17 and
18 WHEREAS, Anthony Samfay will long be remembered and
19 respected by his fellow police officers as a comrade who fell
20 in the line of duty; therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
22 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we join with the citizens of
23 Kankakee in mourning the death of Officer Anthony Samfay and
24 extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and
25 be it further
26 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
27 presented to his mother, Maria Samfay.
