1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3 to learn of the death of Mayor Larry Chaney of Pana,
4 Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Larry Chaney was born on June 17, 1939, in
6 Centralia, Illinois to Oliver and Gladys Lowery Chaney; he
7 married Janet Koontz on March 19, 1960 at St. Paul Lutheran
8 Church of Pana; Mr. Chaney was a member of the the First
9 United Methodist Church of Pana, Masonic Lodge No. 225, Pana
10 Elks Lodge 1261, the Optimist Club, and the Ansar Shrine; and
11 WHEREAS, Larry Chaney was retired from Norfolk and
12 Western Railroad; from 1990 to 1996 he owned and operated
13 Pana Video; from 1983 to 1993 Larry Chaney served on the Pana
14 City Council as an alderman for the second ward; in 1993
15 Larry Chaney was elected to his first term as Mayor of Pana;
16 and
17 WHEREAS, On April 1, 1997, Larry Chaney was re-elected by
18 a 2-1 margin to begin his second term as Mayor; during his
19 first term of office Pana had built a new water treatment
20 plant, and saw the relocation of two businesses into Pana's
21 Industrial Park; the city also moved ahead with plans to
22 construct a bike and hike trail along the old railroad
23 between Pana and Taylorville; and
24 WHEREAS, Larry Chaney is survived by his loving wife
25 Janet; his son Larry Dean Chaney; his daughter Michelle
26 Lebon; his grandchildren Adam, Amy, Chelsy, Brittany, and
27 Zachary; and his two sisters Marilyn Uteg and Shirley
28 Campbell; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
30 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his
31 family, friends, and the citizens of Pana, the death of Mayor

2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of Mayor Larry Chaney of Pana,
4 Illinois.
