Short description: DHS-SCARED STRAIGHT PROG Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Department of Human Services Act to require the Department, in cooperation with local school boards, to establish a Scared Straight Program to identify students at risk of committing crimes. Provides that the program shall include a tour of a prison to discourage criminal behavior. Provides that the program shall also include mentor programs and tours of college campuses and large companies in order to show the students positive options. Requires the Department to make grants to not-for-profit organizations and churches for the Scared Straight Program and immediate intervention programs established under the Juvenile Justice Reform Provisions of 1998. Effective July 1, 1998.
