 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are  saddened  to  learn of the death of Ray
 4    Petersen of Gibson City, Illinois, who passed away on January
 5    19, 1999; and

 6        WHEREAS, Mr. Petersen was born in Gibson City on  May  3,
 7    1936;  his parents were Walter and Laura Petersen; on May 28,
 8    1960 he married Judith Mooney; and

 9        WHEREAS, Mr. Petersen worked for the Urbana Courier  from
10    1959 to 1969; from 1969 to 1974 he worked for the Gibson City
11    Courier,  writing  a  column entitled "Pete and Re-Pete"; Mr.
12    Petersen  served  as  a  longtime   correspondent   for   The
13    News-Gazette  in  Champaign;  he  ran Remembrance Photography
14    from 1975 to 1998, when he retired; and

15        WHEREAS, Mr. Petersen served Gibson City as treasurer  in
16    1972  and  as  the  alderman from the third ward from 1976 to
17    1980; he was a supporter of the Open Meetings Act  and  would
18    let area board members who met in secret meetings know how he
19    felt about such actions; and

20        WHEREAS,  Ray  Petersen  is survived by his wife, Judith;
21    his son, Martin Petersen;  his  daughters,  Krista  Holloway,
22    Karin McBride, and Laura Schwarze; his sister, Norma Newsome;
23    and five grandchildren; therefore, be it

24        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
25    NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
26    we mourn, along with his family and friends, the death of Ray
27    Petersen  of Gibson City; may they find peace in this time of
28    need; and be it further

29        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
30    presented to the family of Ray Petersen.
