1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are proud to represent the people of the
4 State who live and work in the agricultural and farming
5 industries; and
6 WHEREAS, Illinois is one of the leading producers of
7 agricultural products and a major exporter; In 1997 Illinois
8 was ranked third among all fifty states in the value of its
9 agricultural exports; and
10 WHEREAS, Illinois is the home of many agricultural
11 families, some of whom keep the family farm alive through
12 many generations; and
13 WHEREAS, Competition is fierce in the agriculture field,
14 and for farmers and agricultural producers to stay ahead in
15 their specialities they need fair trade and fair access to
16 global markets; therefore, be it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19 we encourage the United States Congress to pass a
20 supplemental appropriation of $500 million of guaranteed,
21 low-interest loans and additional financial assistance for
22 farm families; and be it further
23 RESOLVED, That we call on Congress to pass "Fast Track
24 Trading Authority" to allow the President to more directly
25 negotiate agricultural trade; and be it further
26 RESOLVED, That we encourage more trade initiatives to
27 open new export markets for farm families; and be it further
28 RESOLVED, That we ask the federal government to increase
29 their agricultural purchases from our home suppliers when
30 providing future foreign aid; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution and
2 preamble be presented to the members of the Congressional
3 delegation from Illinois and the President of the United
4 States.
