1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the history of education in the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Downers Grove
6 Grade School District 58, located 25 miles west of Chicago
7 and serving the suburban communities of Downers Grove, Oak
8 Brook, Westmont and Woodridge, is celebrating its centennial
9 while continuing to provide exceptional educational
10 opportunities for its students in the district's ten
11 elementary and two middle schools; and
12 WHEREAS, District 58, since 1902, has committed itself to
13 providing a quality education that will become the foundation
14 for a lifetime of learning for its students; and
15 WHEREAS, District 58's educational goals have resulted in
16 its students ranking in the top 25 percent of all students
17 nationally, outperforming 73 percent of all elementary
18 schools nationwide; and
19 WHEREAS, District 58 continually strives to provide a
20 safe, friendly, nurturing environment in which children are
21 challenged and inspired to learn and grow into contributing
22 members of society; and
23 WHEREAS, District 58 is committed to celebrating
24 diversity and cultivating values and character within its
25 students by emphasizing standards of conduct and commitment;
26 and
27 WHEREAS, District 58 works to consistently maintain an
28 exemplary educational program that excites minds, touches
29 spirits and challenges abilities through a working
30 partnership of parents, students, staff and community;

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we congratulate the past 100 years of extraordinary
4 achievements and the on-going efforts of Downers Grove Grade
5 School District 58 to provide its students with the best
6 possible public education; and be it further
7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8 presented to District 58 Board of Education President Thomas
9 I. Cunningham and District 58 Superintendent Dr. Dale F.
10 Martin as an expression of our congratulations.
