TITLE 77: PUBLIC HEALTH

Section 657.10 Definition of Maternal Death
Maternal Death is the death of any woman dying of any cause whatsoever while pregnant or within one year after the termination of the pregnancy, irrespective of the duration of the pregnancy at the time of the termination or the method by which it was terminated.

Section 657.20 Reporting of Maternal Death
In the event of a maternal death and when requested in writing by the Illinois Department of Public Health, any hospital, any coroner or medical examiner, or any health care provider, having contact with the deceased, shall provide one complete copy of pertinent medical records, including the autopsy report, to the Department.

Section 657.30 Time Limit on Reporting
The medical records and autopsy report pertinent to the maternal death shall be provided to the Department within 30 days after receipt, by the hospital, coroner, medical examiner, or health care provider, of the Department's written request.

Section 657.40 Confidentiality of Records
The Department of Public Health will keep all records confidential pursuant to federal law, Part 21 of Article VIII of the Code of Civil Procedure [735 ILCS 5/Art. VIII, Part 21], and Section 5 of the Illinois Health Statistics Act [410 ILCS 520/5].
