| 1 | HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General | ||||||
| 3 | Assembly pays honor and respect to those individuals who have | ||||||
| 4 | given their lives in service to their community; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Lt. Gregory Jonas joined the Alorton Police | ||||||
| 6 | Department in 1976, where he worked for eight years; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Lt. Jonas joined the Centreville Police | ||||||
| 8 | Department in 1995 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2004; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Lt. Jonas was shot and killed on June 2, 2009 | ||||||
| 10 | while patrolling an apartment complex in the 4700 block of | ||||||
| 11 | Tudor Avenue; the suspect was apprehended, charged with | ||||||
| 12 | murder, and sentenced to 53 years in prison without parole; | ||||||
| 13 | and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Lt. Jonas was | ||||||
| 15 | survived by his wife, two sons, four daughters, his mother, | ||||||
| 16 | and 10 grandchildren; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 18 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
| 19 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Bond Avenue in | ||||||
| 20 | Centreville from South 43rd Street to South 47 Street as the | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | "Lt. Gregory Jonas Memorial Avenue"; and be it further | ||||||
| 2 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
| 3 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with | ||||||
| 4 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
| 5 | giving notice of the name "Lt. Gregory Jonas Memorial Avenue"; | ||||||
| 6 | and be it further | ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 8 | presented to the family of Lt. Jonas and the Secretary of the | ||||||
| 9 | Illinois Department of Transportation. | ||||||
