HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress authorized the formation of two battalions of Marines in Philadelphia, beginning what would become the United States Marine Corps; and

WHEREAS, The U.S. Marine Corps has protected Americans and guarded their freedom for 248 years, serving with distinction in all wars in which the United States has been involved; and

WHEREAS, As the United States established a position of world leadership, the Marines have proven themselves as dedicated professionals willing to defend the lives and rights of Americans and of our allies of freedom around the world; and

WHEREAS, Since the formation of the Marines, the term "Marine" has been associated with courage and military proficiency; and

WHEREAS, The residents of Illinois are proud of the State's rich contribution to the Marine tradition and respect the Marines serving around the globe; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare November 10, 2025 as "Marine Corps Day" and the month of November 2025 as "Marine Corps Month" to recognize and honor the contributions of Marines and to commemorate the sacrifices and valor displayed by Marines; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we urge Marine Corps Day and Marine Corps Month be observed with appropriate programs, services, and activities.
