HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, President Donald Trump has launched an unprecedented assault on workers' rights, civil rights, pay equality, and workplace safety in an executive order targeting "diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility" efforts in workplaces; and

WHEREAS, President Trump's order repeals 60 years of workplace protections, including rules intended to safeguard workers from discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation; and

WHEREAS, President Trump's order abandons working families while protecting businesses that pay women, people of color, and many other workers less than their white and male counterparts in the same job, and his order unilaterally eliminates protections that prevent federal contractors from retaliating against workers who inquire about compensation or discuss their pay with others; and

WHEREAS, President Trump's order aims to keep people with diverse backgrounds and experiences out of the very rooms where decisions are made by threatening businesses, schools, and government agencies that seek to maintain a diverse workforce; and

WHEREAS, President Trump and his allies have justified their actions with demeaning and hateful attacks against working people, including an outrageous claim by a top official the President continues to empower, who stated, "competent white men must be in charge if you want things to work"; the President himself blamed the tragic January 2025 air disaster on the Federal Aviation Administration's hiring of people with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, People in Illinois demand a better direction, where people of all backgrounds have opportunity, where every worker knows they are protected from unfair retaliation and discrimination, and where equal work is rewarded with equal pay; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we condemn President Donald Trump's efforts to undermine equal pay, make workplaces less fair, and limit opportunity; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we condemn the false, hateful comments President Trump and his allies have used to impugn and demean working people; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we renew our commitment to prioritize equal pay for equal work, opportunities for all, and protections in our workplaces in Illinois.
