| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The people of Syria have long endured tremendous | ||||||
| 3 | hardship, suffering under the oppressive rule of Bashar | ||||||
| 4 | al-Assad, whose regime has committed grave human rights | ||||||
| 5 | violations, suppressed political freedoms, and inflicted | ||||||
| 6 | immense destruction upon the country; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, The Syrian people have demonstrated extraordinary | ||||||
| 8 | resilience, courage, and determination in their struggle for | ||||||
| 9 | freedom, dignity, and self-determination; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, After years of struggle, the people of Syria have | ||||||
| 11 | achieved a historic victory with the liberation of their | ||||||
| 12 | nation and the fall of the Assad dictatorship; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, This victory represents a new chapter in Syria's | ||||||
| 14 | history, paving the way for a future built on democracy, | ||||||
| 15 | justice, and the rule of law, where the rights and aspirations | ||||||
| 16 | of all Syrians are respected and protected; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, The Syrian diaspora, including many Syrian | ||||||
| 18 | Americans, has played an essential role in advocating for | ||||||
| 19 | justice, supporting humanitarian efforts, and keeping the hope | ||||||
| 20 | of a free Syria alive; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, The international community, including the United | ||||||
| 2 | States, must continue to support the Syrian people in their | ||||||
| 3 | transition toward a stable and democratic government, ensuring | ||||||
| 4 | accountability for past crimes and aiding in the | ||||||
| 5 | reconstruction of the nation; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 7 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 8 | we congratulate the people of Syria on their liberation and | ||||||
| 9 | the fall of the dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad; and be it | ||||||
| 10 | further | ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, That we express our solidarity with the Syrian | ||||||
| 12 | people as they embark on the path toward rebuilding their | ||||||
| 13 | country and establishing a just and democratic society; and be | ||||||
| 14 | it further | ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 16 | presented to representatives of the Syrian community and | ||||||
| 17 | organizations advocating for a free and democratic Syria as a | ||||||
| 18 | symbol of our support and recognition. | ||||||
