| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of James A. "Jim" Wright of Ware, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on January 20, 2025; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Jim Wright was born to Wayne Karl "Kate" and | ||||||
| 6 | Ivory (Wilson) Wright in Union County on July 13, 1938; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Jim Wright worked at the Murray Center in | ||||||
| 8 | Centralia for five years before transferring to the Choate | ||||||
| 9 | Mental Health and Development Center, retiring after 25 years | ||||||
| 10 | of service; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Jim Wright was a strong AFSCME union member as an | ||||||
| 12 | employee and after his retirement, serving as president of | ||||||
| 13 | AFSCME Retirees Local Subchapter 90 for 30 years; he made | ||||||
| 14 | hundreds of trips to Springfield to fight against layoffs | ||||||
| 15 | while advocating to protect pensions and to ensure healthcare | ||||||
| 16 | coverage; he received a plaque from AFSCME in commemoration of | ||||||
| 17 | his years of dedication to the union and for inspiring others | ||||||
| 18 | to keep fighting the good fight; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Jim Wright was an active member of the Democratic | ||||||
| 20 | Party, serving as a precinct committeeman for over 50 years; | ||||||
| 21 | he worked diligently towards the election of hundreds of | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | office holders at the local, state, and federal levels; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Jim Wright loved watching his grandsons | ||||||
| 3 | participate in sports, playing bingo, going to the casino, | ||||||
| 4 | eating fried chicken, and watching any sport on television, | ||||||
| 5 | especially the St. Louis Cardinals; in his younger years, he | ||||||
| 6 | enjoyed fishing and hunting; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Jim Wright was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
| 8 | and his siblings, Bill Wright, Barbara Foster, Lois Dickerson, | ||||||
| 9 | Ruth Allen, Sondra Clover, and Audrey Wright; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Jim Wright is survived by his daughter, Vonda | ||||||
| 11 | (Steve) Benefield; two grandsons; his siblings, Richard | ||||||
| 12 | Wright, Beverly Ellis, Sharon Smith, Vicki Wilson, Debbie | ||||||
| 13 | Wright, and Karen Wright; and numerous nieces, nephews, | ||||||
| 14 | extended family, and friends; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 17 | James A. "Jim" Wright and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
| 18 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 19 | further | ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to the family of Jim Wright as an expression of our | ||||||
