| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deepest sympathy | ||||||
| 3 | that the members of the Illinois House of Representatives | ||||||
| 4 | acknowledge the death of Wadee Alfayoumi, whose life was | ||||||
| 5 | unjustly taken due to hatred and bigotry targeting his | ||||||
| 6 | Palestinian identity; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Wadee Alfayoumi, the child of Hanan Shaheen and | ||||||
| 8 | Odai Alfayoumi, was a 6-year-old Palestinian Muslim-American | ||||||
| 9 | boy who was an angelic and beloved son, family member, | ||||||
| 10 | classmate, and friend; he was regarded as an energetic and | ||||||
| 11 | radiant light whose heart was full of love, his spirit was | ||||||
| 12 | bright, and his kindness knew no bounds; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Wadee Alfayoumi found joy in joining his parents | ||||||
| 14 | in prayer, embracing faith with a devotion that defined his | ||||||
| 15 | character, and he carried a deep care for the world around him, | ||||||
| 16 | nurturing a love for the planet and all those he encountered; | ||||||
| 17 | and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, On October 14, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., Wadee | ||||||
| 19 | Alfayoumi was brutally stabbed 26 times by a hate-driven | ||||||
| 20 | perpetrator and tragically succumbed to his injuries; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, With a future full of promise, Wadee Alfayoumi's | ||||||

| 1 | laughter, warmth, and boundless love left an indelible mark on | ||||||
| 2 | everyone he met, and his untimely death represents a profound | ||||||
| 3 | loss not only to his family and loved ones but also to the | ||||||
| 4 | entire community; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Though his time with us was far too brief, Wadee | ||||||
| 6 | Alfayoumi's love and light continue to touch our hearts every | ||||||
| 7 | day, and his memory will forever be a guiding force and a | ||||||
| 8 | reminder of innocence, compassion, and the enduring power of a | ||||||
| 9 | responsibility toward justice that our world needs; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Wadee Alfayoumi's tragic passing serves as a | ||||||
| 11 | stark reminder of the urgent need to confront and combat all | ||||||
| 12 | forms of prejudice, discrimination, and violence and to strive | ||||||
| 13 | tirelessly for a world where every individual is valued, | ||||||
| 14 | respected, and embraced for who they are; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 16 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 17 | we mourn the passing of Wadee Alfayoumi and extend our sincere | ||||||
| 18 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
| 19 | him; and be it further | ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Wadee Alfayoumi, | ||||||
| 21 | celebrate his remarkable life, and reaffirm our commitment to | ||||||
| 22 | building a more inclusive, equitable, and compassionate | ||||||

| 1 | society where every individual can live free from fear, | ||||||
| 2 | discrimination, and violence; and be it further | ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That we stand in solidarity with the family and | ||||||
| 4 | friends of Wadee Alfayoumi in their grief and mourning; and be | ||||||
| 5 | it further | ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 7 | presented to the family of Wadee Alfayoumi as an expression of | ||||||
| 8 | our deepest sympathy. | ||||||
