HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting the Illinois General
3Assembly recognizes the sacrifice of U.S. Army Specialist
4Anthony "Tony" William Gilman and his love for his country;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Anthony Gilman, son of Fred and Mary Gilman, was
7born in Jerseyville on January 22, 1976; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Anthony Gilman grew up in Calhoun County,
9graduating from Calhoun High School in 1994; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Anthony Gilman enjoyed hunting and fishing
11throughout Calhoun and Pike County; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Anthony Gilman decided to enlist in the U.S. Army
13in 1997, making it to the rank of specialist; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Anthony Gilman lost his life on July 4, 1999,
15becoming the first American casualty during the peacekeeping
16mission in Kosovo; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The County of Calhoun is honoring the life and
18sacrifice of Anthony Gilman on Memorial Day 2025; therefore,
19be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
3SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois Route 96
4from Mozier to the Pike County line as "Army Specialist
5Anthony William Gilman Highway"; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
7is requested to erect, at suitable location consistent with
8State and Federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
9giving notice of the name of the "Army Specialist Anthony
10William Gilman Highway; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Army Specialist Anthony Gilman, the
13County Board of Calhoun, and the Secretary of Transportation.
