HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Oswaldo "Ozzie" Guillén Barrios on his storied career and remarkable achievements; and

WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén, born January 20, 1964, is an exceptional and revered former major league baseball player, manager, philanthropist, and current sports broadcaster; he played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a shortstop for 16 seasons, primarily with the Chicago White Sox, from 1985 to 2000; and

WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén was born in Ocumare del Tuy, Venezuela; he became known for his defensive skills and fiery personality; he won the American League Rookie of the Year award in 1985 and a Gold Glove; he was a three-time All-Star and was considered one of the best defensive shortstops of his era; and

WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén became the manager of the Chicago White Sox in 2004 and made history in 2005 as the first Latino-born manager to win a World Series, leading the team to its first championship in 88 years; he managed the Chicago White Sox from 2004 to 2011; and

WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén transitioned into coaching and management after retiring as a player; beyond baseball, he is actively involved in philanthropy; he founded the Ozzie Guillén Foundation, a foundation dedicated to supporting underserved communities through education, sports programs, and social initiatives, focusing on providing resources for youth development, particularly in the Chicago area and Venezuela; and

WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén has worked as a television analyst and commentator since his managerial career, covering MLB and international baseball, and his outspoken and charismatic style has made him a popular figure in baseball media; and

WHEREAS, On October 26, 2025, Chicago White Sox fans will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 2005 World Series victory over the Houston Astros in a four-game sweep, which marked their first World Series championship since 1917; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Oswaldo "Ozzie" Guillén Barrios on his storied career and remarkable achievements, and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ozzie Guillén as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
