| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Oswaldo "Ozzie" Guillén | ||||||
| 4 | Barrios on his storied career and remarkable achievements; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén, born January 20, 1964, is an | ||||||
| 6 | exceptional and revered former major league baseball player, | ||||||
| 7 | manager, philanthropist, and current sports broadcaster; he | ||||||
| 8 | played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a shortstop for 16 | ||||||
| 9 | seasons, primarily with the Chicago White Sox, from 1985 to | ||||||
| 10 | 2000; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén was born in Ocumare del Tuy, | ||||||
| 12 | Venezuela; he became known for his defensive skills and fiery | ||||||
| 13 | personality; he won the American League Rookie of the Year | ||||||
| 14 | award in 1985 and a Gold Glove; he was a three-time All-Star | ||||||
| 15 | and was considered one of the best defensive shortstops of his | ||||||
| 16 | era; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén became the manager of the Chicago | ||||||
| 18 | White Sox in 2004 and made history in 2005 as the first | ||||||
| 19 | Latino-born manager to win a World Series, leading the team to | ||||||
| 20 | its first championship in 88 years; he managed the Chicago | ||||||
| 21 | White Sox from 2004 to 2011; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén transitioned into coaching and | ||||||
| 2 | management after retiring as a player; beyond baseball, he is | ||||||
| 3 | actively involved in philanthropy; he founded the Ozzie | ||||||
| 4 | Guillén Foundation, a foundation dedicated to supporting | ||||||
| 5 | underserved communities through education, sports programs, | ||||||
| 6 | and social initiatives, focusing on providing resources for | ||||||
| 7 | youth development, particularly in the Chicago area and | ||||||
| 8 | Venezuela; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén has worked as a television analyst | ||||||
| 10 | and commentator since his managerial career, covering MLB and | ||||||
| 11 | international baseball, and his outspoken and charismatic | ||||||
| 12 | style has made him a popular figure in baseball media; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, On October 26, 2025, Chicago White Sox fans will | ||||||
| 14 | celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 2005 World Series | ||||||
| 15 | victory over the Houston Astros in a four-game sweep, which | ||||||
| 16 | marked their first World Series championship since 1917; | ||||||
| 17 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 19 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 20 | we congratulate Oswaldo "Ozzie" Guillén Barrios on his storied | ||||||
| 21 | career and remarkable achievements, and we wish him continued | ||||||
| 22 | success in all his future endeavors; and be it further | ||||||
