| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Thomas Owen "Tom" Kuhl of Springfield, | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on March 16, 2025; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Tom Kuhl was born in Chicago to Mary (Owen) and | ||||||
| 6 | Capt. Marion Kuhl on May 5, 1944; he attended St. Joseph | ||||||
| 7 | Parochial School in Mattoon and graduated from Mattoon Senior | ||||||
| 8 | High School in 1962; he attended the University of Illinois | ||||||
| 9 | and graduated from Eastern Illinois University; he served his | ||||||
| 10 | country in the U.S. Army from October 1968 to July 1970, which | ||||||
| 11 | included a year in Vietnam; he married Diana Lou Glasscock in | ||||||
| 12 | 1971; he married Jan (Hinton) Lane on May 19, 2000; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Tom Kuhl worked for the Illinois Consolidated | ||||||
| 14 | Telephone Company for a total of 26 years; he then worked for | ||||||
| 15 | the State of Illinois for over 18 years; in addition, he was | ||||||
| 16 | part-owner of Knowles Cafeteria and taught as adjunct faculty | ||||||
| 17 | at Lakeland College in Mattoon; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Tom Kuhl was committed to helping his fellow | ||||||
| 19 | veterans, which was evident through his participation in the | ||||||
| 20 | Lincoln Land Honor Flight program; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Tom Kuhl was an election judge for 28 years; he | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, where he served as | ||||||
| 2 | an usher; he had a passion for the outdoors and was a Boy Scout | ||||||
| 3 | and president of the high school rifle team in his youth; he | ||||||
| 4 | was a member of Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree, beginning in | ||||||
| 5 | 1973 and serving as their treasurer from 1974 to 1998, and a | ||||||
| 6 | member of Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, beginning in 1974 | ||||||
| 7 | and serving as their comptroller from 1976 to 1998; he was also | ||||||
| 8 | a member of the Mattoon Rifle & Pistol Club and the Moose, | ||||||
| 9 | Eagles, and Abraham Lincoln gun clubs; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Tom Kuhl enjoyed riding and working on | ||||||
| 11 | motorcycles and Corvettes and tinkering with cars, computers, | ||||||
| 12 | and firearms; he found great joy in spending time with his | ||||||
| 13 | grandchildren and traveling with Jan; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Tom Kuhl was preceded in death by his first wife, | ||||||
| 15 | Diana; his parents; his stepdaughter, Kristen Lane-Brunson; | ||||||
| 16 | and his step-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Myles; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Tom Kuhl is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jan; | ||||||
| 18 | his children, Christina (Matt) Kuhl Wools and John Thomas | ||||||
| 19 | (Angie) Kuhl; his stepson, Robert Lane; his grandchildren, | ||||||
| 20 | Jacob and Jared Wools, and Elise, Ian, and Celine Kuhl; and | ||||||
| 21 | many close friends; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 22 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||

| 1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 2 | Thomas Owen "Tom" Kuhl and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
| 3 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 4 | further | ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 6 | presented to the family of Tom Kuhl as an expression of our | ||||||
| 7 | deepest sympathy. | ||||||
