| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Geja's Café, located in | ||||||
| 4 | the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, on providing a | ||||||
| 5 | unique, romantic dining experience for the past 60 years; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Geja's Café was initially launched as a wine and | ||||||
| 7 | cheese bar by John Davis in 1965; the restaurant briefly ran a | ||||||
| 8 | full kitchen before deciding to only serve fondue in 1971, the | ||||||
| 9 | same year it settled in its current location on West Armitage | ||||||
| 10 | Avenue; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Geja's Café has become known for its three-course | ||||||
| 12 | premier dinner, which includes a cheese fondue course, an | ||||||
| 13 | entree fondue course of meats, seafood, and vegetables, and a | ||||||
| 14 | dessert fondue course of dark Belgian chocolate; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Geja's Café, long heralded as one of Chicago's | ||||||
| 16 | most romantic restaurants, has been the location of over 500 | ||||||
| 17 | marriage proposals; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Geja's Café has been a favorite indulgence for | ||||||
| 19 | Chicagoans and visitors alike for six decades, providing | ||||||
| 20 | guests with the perfect way to kindle romance, celebrate a | ||||||
| 21 | special occasion, or to simply join family and friends for a | ||||||

| 1 | fun and unforgettable dining experience; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Geja's Cafe is currently owned and operated by | ||||||
| 3 | Jeff and Darla Lawler, the former having purchased the | ||||||
| 4 | establishment in 2015 after working with the restaurant for | ||||||
| 5 | over 30 years; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Geja's Cafe has become an institution and pillar | ||||||
| 7 | of the Lincoln Park community, offering a special experience | ||||||
| 8 | that draws in neighborhood residents and acts as a destination | ||||||
| 9 | to draw others to the neighborhood; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 11 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 12 | we congratulate Geja's Café on achieving its 60th anniversary, | ||||||
| 13 | and we wish the restaurant continued success; and be it | ||||||
| 14 | further | ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 16 | presented to Geja's Café as a symbol of our esteem and respect. | ||||||
