HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, On May 22, 2025, Congressional Republicans
3slammed a bill through the House of Representatives in the
4middle of the night that strips healthcare coverage from 14
5million Americans; and
 
6    WHEREAS, President Donald Trump brazenly lied to the
7American people, stating he would not cut Medicaid while
8actually lobbying behind closed doors to pass the bill that
9guts $1 trillion from Medicaid and other lifesaving services
10over the next decade; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Congress' own estimates show that 8.6 million
12Americans will be removed from Medicaid and that another 5.1
13million Americans will lose healthcare coverage because of
14Republicans' refusal to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits
15that families need to make healthcare affordable; and
 
16    WHEREAS, In Illinois alone, nearly half a million people
17will lose healthcare coverage because of the Republican bill;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, The Trump healthcare cuts finance a plan that
20provides massive tax cuts for the wealthy while simultaneously
21adding to the burden of modest-income households; an analysis

1by the Yale Budget Lab found that Trump's bill gives the
2wealthiest 1% more than $63,000 per year, while taking $800
3per year from the lowest-income families; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The Trump healthcare cuts are currently being
5debated in the United States Senate; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Members of the Illinois House of Representatives
7have worked to move our State in a better direction by
8advancing policies such as the Healthcare Protection Act,
9which aims to make healthcare better and more affordable by
10stopping insurance companies from raising premiums simply to
11pad profits and reining in the gimmicks big insurance
12companies use to deny care; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we oppose the Trump healthcare cuts, which fundamentally
16undermine the basic dignity and financial security of working
17families across the country; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That we call on the United States Senate to
19immediately table the Trump healthcare cuts bill and instead
20pursue reforms such as the Illinois' Healthcare Protection Act
21to make healthcare more accessible and more affordable; and be
22it further

2presented to all members of the Illinois Congressional
3Delegation.
