| Amends the Chicago School District Article of the School Code. Provides that the Chicago Board of Education shall (rather than may), by majority vote, appoint a general superintendent of schools to serve pursuant to a performance-based contract for a term ending on June 30 of the third calendar year after the appointment. Provides that the general superintendent shall have all of the powers and duties of a chief executive officer as set forth in the Article. Effective immediately. |

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly: |
| 4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section |
| 5 | | 34-6 as follows: |
| 6 | | (105 ILCS 5/34-6) (from Ch. 122, par. 34-6) |
| 7 | | Sec. 34-6. Superintendent of schools. The After June 30, |

| 20 | | Illinois Educational Labor Relations Act. All contracts shall |

| 22 | | superintendent shall have all of the powers and duties of a |
| 23 | | chief executive officer as set forth in this Article. The |

| 2 | | superintendent. An incumbent general superintendent may not be |
| 3 | | precluded from being included in such national search. Persons |
| 4 | | appointed pursuant to this Section shall be exempt from the |
| 5 | | provisions and requirements of Sections 21-1a, 21-7.1, and |
| 6 | | 21B-15 of this Code. |
