| 1 | HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly find | ||||||
| 3 | it fitting to pay respect and honor to Michael Kent Fultz and | ||||||
| 4 | David Roy Mann, ages 20 and 21 respectively, for the sacrifice | ||||||
| 5 | they made for our great nation when they died during the | ||||||
| 6 | Vietnam War in 1969; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Michael Fultz, the son of Robert and Mabel Shahan | ||||||
| 8 | Fultz, was born on December 20, 1948; he attended United | ||||||
| 9 | Methodist Church and Earlville schools; he enlisted in the | ||||||
| 10 | U.S. Army in June 1968, and he was deployed to Vietnam in | ||||||
| 11 | December of that year; in May 1969, his parents received word | ||||||
| 12 | that their son, who had reached the rank of specialist, was | ||||||
| 13 | missing in action; the next day, they further received | ||||||
| 14 | communication that his body had been found and identified; he | ||||||
| 15 | had been wounded in action earlier that year; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, David Roy Mann was born to Oren and Maxine Eggers | ||||||
| 17 | Man in Mendota on September 30, 1948; he graduated from | ||||||
| 18 | Mendota High School in 1967; he married Phillis Skaggs, the | ||||||
| 19 | daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Skaggs of Earlville; before his | ||||||
| 20 | enlistment, he worked in the menswear department of Carr's in | ||||||
| 21 | LaSalle; he went through basic training at Fort Johnson, | ||||||
| 22 | formerly known as Fort Polk, in Louisiana, and he trained at | ||||||
| 23 | Fort Gregg-Adams, formerly known as Fort Lee, Virginia; he was | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | deployed to Vietnam on April 19, 1969, and he was killed during | ||||||
| 2 | an enemy rocket attack while stationed as a clerk typist on May | ||||||
| 3 | 28, 1969; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Michael Fultz and David Roy Mann were young men | ||||||
| 5 | who served our country and who were tragically killed in the | ||||||
| 6 | line of duty; they made the ultimate sacrifice for our great | ||||||
| 7 | nation, and it is imperative that the State of Illinois honors | ||||||
| 8 | this sacrifice along with their families, communities, and | ||||||
| 9 | companions; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 11 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
| 12 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of | ||||||
| 13 | Illinois US Route 34 from 12th Road to 14th Road as the Michael | ||||||
| 14 | Kent Fultz and David Roy Mann Memorial Highway; and be it | ||||||
| 15 | further | ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
| 17 | is requested to erect, at suitable locations consistent with | ||||||
| 18 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
| 19 | giving notice of the name "Michael Kent Fultz and David Roy | ||||||
| 20 | Mann Memorial Highway; and be it further | ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 22 | presented to the families of Michael Kent Fultz and David Roy | ||||||
