| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest types | ||||||
| 3 | of cancer, possessing a devastating five-year survival rate | ||||||
| 4 | below 13%; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Early detection offers the best chance to improve | ||||||
| 6 | survival, but symptoms are often vague and appear late, and | ||||||
| 7 | most patients are diagnosed at advanced stages; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, More than 64,000 new cases of pancreatic cancer | ||||||
| 9 | are projected in the U.S. for 2025, with rates rising among | ||||||
| 10 | younger adults; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Established national guidelines exist for | ||||||
| 12 | individuals at high risk, specifically those with certain | ||||||
| 13 | inherited, or germline, mutations or a significant family | ||||||
| 14 | history of pancreatic cancer, and these individuals may | ||||||
| 15 | benefit from specialized surveillance in dedicated high-risk | ||||||
| 16 | clinics; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Despite these recommendations, pancreatic cancer | ||||||
| 18 | awareness among patients and providers remains low, and many | ||||||
| 19 | at-risk individuals are not connected to the care that could | ||||||
| 20 | help detect cancer earlier; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Raising awareness of pancreatic cancer, its risk | ||||||
| 2 | factors, and the availability of high-risk surveillance | ||||||
| 3 | programs is critical to improving outcomes and fostering | ||||||
| 4 | earlier conversations between patients, families, and | ||||||
| 5 | healthcare providers; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month is observed | ||||||
| 7 | annually during the month of November, with a purple ribbon | ||||||
| 8 | representing pancreatic cancer awareness and solidarity; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, World Pancreatic Cancer Day will be observed on | ||||||
| 10 | November 20, 2025; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare November | ||||||
| 13 | 2025 as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in the State of | ||||||
| 14 | Illinois to raise awareness of the disease and show solidarity | ||||||
| 15 | for those affected by pancreatic cancer. | ||||||
