| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Tom Miller on his | ||||||
| 4 | retirement from WJPF News Radio after nearly 50 years on the | ||||||
| 5 | air; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Tom Miller is a lifelong resident of Southern | ||||||
| 7 | Illinois from Harrisburg, where he has been delivering news | ||||||
| 8 | and entertainment on the radio to the people of Southern | ||||||
| 9 | Illinois for decades; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Tom Miller began his career as a music DJ in 1976 | ||||||
| 11 | before eventually moving into news; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Tom Miller has been the host of the WJPF Morning | ||||||
| 13 | Newswatch on news radio in addition to serving as the program | ||||||
| 14 | director for WJPF and WCIL-AM, and he has also served as | ||||||
| 15 | operations manager for River Radio and its six regional | ||||||
| 16 | stations; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Under Tom Miller's leadership, WJPF has received | ||||||
| 18 | the Medium Market Station of the Year award and the Best Public | ||||||
| 19 | Service Program award from the Illinois Broadcasters | ||||||
| 20 | Association; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Tom Miller received the Leaders Among Us Award | ||||||
| 2 | from the Southern Illinoisan newspaper and the Seven Seals | ||||||
| 3 | Award from the Illinois National Guard for his work supporting | ||||||
| 4 | local service members; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Known for his humility, Tom Miller rarely drew | ||||||
| 6 | attention to himself but instead highlighted others; | ||||||
| 7 | throughout his career, he interviewed political leaders and | ||||||
| 8 | community members from across the state and around the nation; | ||||||
| 9 | and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Tom Miller has demonstrated significant civic | ||||||
| 11 | engagement by previously serving on the board of trustees of | ||||||
| 12 | the Bald Knob Cross of Peace and running for Williamson County | ||||||
| 13 | Board of Commissioners in addition to his interviews with | ||||||
| 14 | political leaders and community members; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Tom Miller has hosted politicians, sports | ||||||
| 16 | figures, rock and roll legends, community leaders, medical | ||||||
| 17 | professionals, and members of every other profession in | ||||||
| 18 | between as the anchor of WJPF Radio's Morning Newswatch | ||||||
| 19 | program; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, The people of Southern Illinois will surely miss | ||||||
| 21 | Tom Miller's insightful interviews, commentary, and unmatched | ||||||
| 22 | personality from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM Monday through Friday; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Tom Miller's nearly 50 years of service to the | ||||||
| 2 | radio industry in Southern Illinois has made him the region's | ||||||
| 3 | top radio news anchorman; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Tom Miller will especially be remembered for his | ||||||
| 5 | journalistic wisdom; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 7 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 8 | we congratulate Tom Miller on his retirement, and we thank him | ||||||
| 9 | for his nearly five decades of dedicated service to the people | ||||||
| 10 | and communities of Southern Illinois as he has been a strong | ||||||
| 11 | and steady voice guiding the region through good times and | ||||||
| 12 | bad; and be it further | ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 14 | presented to Tom Miller and River Radio as a token of our | ||||||
| 15 | esteem and respect. | ||||||
