| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Wenonah M. Bish of Sherman, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on November 1, 2025; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Wenonah Bish was born to Louis B. and Elizabeth | ||||||
| 6 | R. Kelly Taborn in Springfield on October 2, 1912; she was | ||||||
| 7 | educated in the Springfield Public Schools District; she | ||||||
| 8 | married Edgar A. Bish in 1943, and he preceded her in death on | ||||||
| 9 | March 26, 2001; she was a resident of Springfield for the | ||||||
| 10 | majority of her life; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Wenonah Bish worked as an assembly line worker | ||||||
| 12 | for the Sangamo Electric Company, retiring after many years of | ||||||
| 13 | service; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Wenonah Bish was a woman of strong faith and a | ||||||
| 15 | longtime member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church; she was also known | ||||||
| 16 | as a fashionista who never left her home without her hair | ||||||
| 17 | perfectly coiffed, her makeup applied, and her earrings and | ||||||
| 18 | pearls in place; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Wenonah Bish enjoyed receiving daily phone calls | ||||||
| 20 | from her daughter, frequent visits from her family and | ||||||
| 21 | friends, and mail and packages from people around the country | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | and the world; she loved celebrating her birthdays with a meal | ||||||
| 2 | of barbecue ribs from Smokey Bones and original recipe fried | ||||||
| 3 | chicken from Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC); and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Wenonah Bish always looked forward to the joys of | ||||||
| 5 | tomorrow; at the time of her passing, she was the oldest | ||||||
| 6 | resident in the State of Illinois at the age of 113; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Wenonah Bish was preceded in death by her | ||||||
| 8 | parents; her sisters, Thelma Evans, Anne Cabelle, and | ||||||
| 9 | Marguerite (James) Burton; her brother, Louis B. Taborn Jr.; | ||||||
| 10 | and her son, Donald E. Wright; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Wenonah Bish is survived by her daughter, Delores | ||||||
| 12 | Ann (the late Joseph) Hughes; her grandchildren, Pamela (Eric) | ||||||
| 13 | Miller, Joseph H. (Elaine) Hughes, Edgar B. (Regina) Hughes, | ||||||
| 14 | Donald E. (Marybeth) Wright Jr., Douglas Wright, Dirk Wright, | ||||||
| 15 | and Derrick Wright; five great-grandchildren; three | ||||||
| 16 | great-great-grandchildren; her special cousin, Pam Jones King; | ||||||
| 17 | her special friends, Georgetta Slaughter and James Slaughter; | ||||||
| 18 | and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends; | ||||||
| 19 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 22 | Wenonah M. Bish and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
| 2 | further | ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 4 | presented to the family of Wenonah Bish as an expression of our | ||||||
| 5 | deepest sympathy. | ||||||
