SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ray A. Young of Cambridge, who passed away on November 22, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Ray Young, the son of Marion A. and Violet G. Howard Young, was born in Gamaliel, Arkansas on December 29, 1928; he served as an infantry rifleman in the U. S. Army in Korea from 1950 to 1953; he married Isabelle Kapple at Cambridge United Methodist Church on November 1, 1958, and she preceded him in death on February 5, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Ray Young worked as a farmhand in rural Cambridge before becoming a tractor-trailer driver for Johnson Brothers for four years and then for Red Swanson for four years; he worked as a mechanic at Rishel & Son Implement in Cambridge for nine years; he then became supervisor of environmental services at the Henry County Courthouse for 23 years, retiring in 2001; and

WHEREAS, Ray Young was a member of Cambridge United Methodist Church and the former Cambridge American Legion Post No. 417, and he enjoyed traveling and woodworking; and

WHEREAS, Ray Young was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; a sister; his grandmother, Mary Howard; and his uncle, Eldon Howard; and

WHEREAS, Ray Young is survived by his daughter, Lori (Ed) Dole, and his sisters, Louise Fix and Ada Shain; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ray A. Young and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ray Young as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
