| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Duane John Davis of Pekin, who passed |
| 4 | | away on November 26, 2024; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Davis was born to Willard W. and Katherine |
| 6 | | L. (Farmer) Davis in Jefferson City, Missouri on May 16, 1941; |
| 7 | | he served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany |
| 8 | | and through which he learned photography and film development; |
| 9 | | he achieved three associate degrees in multiple fields of |
| 10 | | study through Illinois Central College; he was previously |
| 11 | | married to Vivienne A. "Toni" (Major) Nelson and then Jill |
| 12 | | (Scheidler) Davis, and they survive; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, John Davis worked as a truck driver for Starr |
| 14 | | Transport, retiring in 2013; prior to that, he worked as an |
| 15 | | equipment repair technician at UARCO for many years; he also |
| 16 | | formerly served as a police officer for the Pekin Police |
| 17 | | Department and as police chief of the Delavan Police |
| 18 | | Department; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, John Davis pursued a multitude of hobbies |
| 20 | | throughout the years, including collecting matchbooks, |
| 21 | | photography and film developing, building model railroads, |
| 22 | | reading and completing crossword puzzles, and video gaming; |

| 1 | | due to his sense of adventure and love for the outdoors, he |
| 2 | | became a private pilot and enjoyed sharpening his target |
| 3 | | shooting skills; and |
| 4 | | WHEREAS, John Davis was a very family-oriented man known |
| 5 | | as a bit of homebody later in life who showed kindness through |
| 6 | | his love of pets and donating to charities; he was a big fan of |
| 7 | | the Chicago Bears and always enjoyed a fresh baked loaf of |
| 8 | | bread; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, John Davis was preceded in death by his parents; |
| 10 | | his brother, William Davis; and his sister, Daphene Sweeney; |
| 11 | | and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, John Davis is survived by his daughter, Renee |
| 13 | | (Curt) Afdahl; his granddaughters, Dreeyan (Ryan) Hughes and |
| 14 | | Jorheene Spradlin; his great-granddaughter, Brynleigh Hughes; |
| 15 | | his siblings, Walter J. (Sally) Davis and Shirley H. (Bob) |
| 16 | | Hayes; his stepchildren, Tara, Tim, and Tom; and several |
| 17 | | nieces and nephews; therefore, be it |
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL |
| 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 20 | | Duane John Davis and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 21 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 22 | | further |
