SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ethel Lucille Jesse of Girard and Decatur, who passed away on January 24, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Jesse was born to William Garrison and Nellie (Karrick) Garrison in rural Carlinville on April 9, 1937; she married Edward M. Jesse on April 20, 1957, and he preceded her in death on April 2, 2001; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Jesse worked as a CNA at Pleasant Hill Village in Girard, where she provided loving care for the residents for more than 28 years; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Jesse was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking and candy making, and some of her family's favorite recipes included her vegetable soup, sloppy taters, Texas sheet cake, and divinity and buckeyes candy; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Jesse loved her family fiercely and enjoyed attending family gatherings; she will be remembered for her tenacity and determination to live life on her terms; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Jesse was preceded in death by her parents and 12 siblings; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Jesse is survived by her children, Debra (Don) Giger, Edward (Kim) Jesse, and Donna Maybury; her grandchildren, Todd (Rebekah) Giger, Samantha (Greg) Pelcak, Trevor (Erica) Giger, Trent (Kimi) Giger, Sarah Jesse, and Brayden (Dakotah) Maybury; six great-grandchildren; four bonus great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, with one more expected; and her friends and acquaintances; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ethel Lucille Jesse and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ethel Jesse as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
