HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The men and women from Illinois who have honorably served our nation have done so with courage, discipline, and a steadfast commitment to protecting the freedoms we enjoy; and

WHEREAS, Illinois veterans from all branches of the Armed Forces, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Space Force, and the Illinois National Guard, continue to serve their communities as leaders, mentors, first responders, business owners, and public servants; and

WHEREAS, The transition from military service to civilian life presents both opportunities and challenges, making it important to recognize not only the sacrifices made in uniform but also the ongoing needs of Illinois veterans and their families; and

WHEREAS, The month of May includes observances such as Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day, providing a meaningful opportunity for the people of Illinois to reflect on service, sacrifice, and continued contributions; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare May 2026 as Illinois Military Appreciation Month in the State of Illinois to honor the service, sacrifice, and continued contributions of veterans across our State; and be it further

RESOLVED, That citizens, schools, businesses, veterans' organizations, and government entities across Illinois are encouraged to observe Illinois Military Appreciation Month through activities that recognize veterans' ongoing impact, support their successful transition to civilian life, and strengthen connections between veterans and the communities they serve; and be it further

RESOLVED, That these observances serve to complement remembrance efforts by recognizing not only those we have lost but also those who continue to serve our State and nation in new ways every day.
