SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

5 ILCS 490/136 new

Amends the State Commemorative Dates Act. Provides that December 1 through December 7 of each year is designated as Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Week as a week to encourage awareness of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

AN ACT concerning government.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The State Commemorative Dates Act is amended by adding Section 136 as follows:

Sec. 136. Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Week. December 1 through December 7 of each year is designated as Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Week as a week to invite and encourage all people in Illinois to join the effort to find a cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, engage in activities aimed at raising awareness of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis among the public and health care providers, promote and support biomedical research needed to find better treatments and a cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, encourage media organizations to participate in Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Week by helping to educate the public about Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, recognize all people in Illinois living with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and express appreciation to the family members and caregivers who support them, and commend the dedication of health care professionals and biomedical researchers who care for patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and work to advance basic, genetic, and clinical research aimed at developing new treatments and a cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
