SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Gilbert "Judge" Gonzalez of Calumet
4City, formerly of South Chicago, who passed away on July 9,
52025; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Gilbert Gonzalez, the son of Encarnacion and
7Elisa Gonzalez, was born on September 1, 1935; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Gilbert Gonzalez worked for and retired from
9Wisconsin Steel Works and the Chicago Transit Authority; he
10was also active in politics and always willing to serve his
11community; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Gilbert Gonzalez was an avid train collector and
13a capable do-it-yourselfer; he enjoyed watching sports and
14cheering on the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears with his
15family; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Gilbert Gonzalez was a kind, friendly, gentle,
17and happy person, and he will be remembered as a loving and
18devoted husband and father and a huge supporter of his
19grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Gilbert Gonzalez was preceded in death by his

1parents; his granddaughter, Jennifer Rodriguez; and his
2siblings, Ruben (Maria) Gonzalez, Carmen (the late Enrique)
3Villa, Charlie (the late Margarita) Gonzalez, Paula Corona,
4and Connie Torres; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gilbert Gonzalez is survived by his wife of 70
6years, Angeline (Raya) Gonzalez; his children, Lillian
7Rodriguez, Shirley (Javier) Salazar, Gilbert (Kimberly)
8Gonzalez Jr., and Christopher (Jodie L. Zimmerman) Gonzalez;
9nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his honorary
10child, Rose Martinez; his siblings, Rose (Luis) Esquivel and
11Esther (the late Alphonso) Martinez; and many nieces, nephews,
12in-laws, and friends; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Gilbert "Judge" Gonzalez and extend our sincere condolences to
16his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Gilbert Gonzalez as an expression
20of our deepest sympathy.
