| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Tardifay |
| 4 | | (Horton) Jackson, who passed away on February 13, 2026; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Tardifay Jackson was born to Charlie Lee and |
| 6 | | Bessie Jefferson Horton in Chattanooga, Tennessee on January |
| 7 | | 7, 1936; she attended East 5th Street Elementary School in |
| 8 | | Chattanooga and received a bachelor's degree in education from |
| 9 | | Tennessee State University in Nashville, where she pledged |
| 10 | | Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; she also attended Chicago |
| 11 | | Teachers College, known today as Chicago State University, and |
| 12 | | earned a master's degree from Northeastern Illinois |
| 13 | | University; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Tardifay Jackson met James Jackson while |
| 15 | | attending Tennessee State University, and they married in a |
| 16 | | chapel at Fort Rucker, Alabama; upon graduation, they moved to |
| 17 | | the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois; through |
| 18 | | their union, they had one child, Adrienne; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Tardifay Jackson initially taught in the Chicago |
| 20 | | Public Schools on Chicago's West Side and then accepted a |
| 21 | | position at Madison Elementary School in South Holland School |
| 22 | | District 151, where she worked for more than 25 years; during |

| 1 | | her career, she was a celebrated educator who was known for her |
| 2 | | extraordinary ability in teaching students how to read; and |
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Tardifay Jackson committed to her faith at an |
| 4 | | early age; in her youth, she and her family attended Tucker |
| 5 | | Baptist Church, and she was baptized in July 1947; as an adult, |
| 6 | | she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church on Chicago's South |
| 7 | | Side, where she served on the Education and Scholarship Board |
| 8 | | and taught Vacation Bible School in the summers; she was also a |
| 9 | | den mother for the Cub Scouts of America; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Tardifay Jackson loved spending time and |
| 11 | | traveling with her grandson, Quintin, and she was referred to |
| 12 | | as his "taxi-granny" for her willingness to drive him |
| 13 | | everywhere, especially to Burger King; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Tardifay Jackson was preceded in death by her |
| 15 | | parents; her former husband; and her siblings, Ernest and |
| 16 | | Gloria; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Tardifay Jackson is survived by her daughter, |
| 18 | | Adrienne (Michael); her grandson, Quintin; her sister, Doris |
| 19 | | Horton; and a host of relatives and friends; therefore, be it |
| 20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 21 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

| 1 | | we mourn the passing of Tardifay (Horton) Jackson and extend |
| 2 | | our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who |

| 5 | | presented to the family of Tardifay Jackson as an expression |
| 6 | | of our deepest sympathy. |
