HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The State of Illinois recognizes the importance of higher education as a vital component of workforce development, economic growth, and personal advancement; and

WHEREAS, Many students in Illinois balance professional responsibilities and family obligations during the day, making evening education programs essential to their academic and career progress; and

WHEREAS, Night courses and programs at Illinois colleges and universities provide crucial opportunities for non-traditional students, working adults, and career changers to pursue degrees and further their education without sacrificing their employment; and

WHEREAS, These programs offer pathways for students to build real-world skills and enhance their professional experience while continuing to contribute to the State's workforce and economy; and

WHEREAS, The availability of night courses expands access to education, promotes workforce readiness, and strengthens Illinois' economic competitiveness; and

WHEREAS, Budgetary cuts and program cancellations threaten the continuation of these vital educational opportunities, placing undue barriers on students seeking flexible learning options; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we express our strong support for the continued offering and expansion of night courses and programs at Illinois colleges and universities; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we urge higher education institutions and governing bodies to prioritize and protect night programs from budgetary cuts or elimination; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the Illinois Community College Board to share with the presidents of public and private colleges and universities throughout Illinois.
