| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

| represented in the General Assembly:

| Section 5. The Public Safety Employee Benefits Act is |

| amended by changing Section 3 as follows:

Definition. For the purposes of this |

| "Firefighter"
, the term "firefighter"
includes, without |

| limitation, a licensed emergency medical technician (EMT) who

| is a sworn member of a public fire department.

| "Catastrophic injury" means consequences of an injury that |
| 13 |
| permanently prevent an individual from performing any gainful |
| 14 |
| work.
