SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, Pulmonary fibrosis (PF), is a serious disease that 
3creates
scarring in the delicate lung tissue and is incurable; 
4and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Pulmonary fibrosis often progresses quickly, 
6causing limited
quality of life and disability, and can lead to 
7death within a few short
years; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, In many cases, there is no identified cause of 
9pulmonary
fibrosis, which is therefore called idiopathic 
10pulmonary fibrosis (IPF),
and approximately 200,000 people in 
11the United States are estimated to be
diagnosed with this 
12disease; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Pulmonary fibrosis is often misdiagnosed and 
14under-diagnosed, and
a need has been identified to increase 
15wide-ranging awareness and
detection of this imperceptible 
16disease; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation mobilizes 
18people and resources
to provide access to high quality care and 
19leads research for a cure so
people with pulmonary fibrosis 
20will live longer, healthier lives; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL 
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare September of 
32016 as Global
Pulmonary Fibrosis Month in the State of 
4Illinois to increase
awareness of this disease and encourage 
5research into new treatments; and be it further
  
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution
be

7presented to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation as a symbol of 
8our
respect and esteem.
