Amends the Township Code. Requires a county board to
submit the question of whether to discontinue township
organization to the voters if 10% or more of the voters in
each township (now, of the county) petition the board.

1 AN ACT to amend the Township Code by changing Section
2 25-5.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing
6 Section 25-5 as follows:
7 (60 ILCS 1/25-5)
8 Sec. 25-5. Petition and referendum to discontinue
9 township organization. Upon the petition of at least 10% of
10 the legal voters of each township of a any county, as
11 determined on the date the petition is filed, that has
12 adopted township organization, the county board shall certify
13 and cause to be submitted to the voters of the county, at the
14 next general election, the question of the continuance of
15 township organization. A signature on a petition shall not
16 be valid or counted in considering the petition unless the
17 form requirements are complied with and the date of each
18 signature is less than 90 days before the last day for filing
19 the petition. The statement of the person who circulates the
20 petition must include an attestation (i) indicating the dates
21 on which that sheet was circulated, (ii) indicating the first
22 and last date on which that sheet was circulated, or (iii)
23 certifying that none of the signatures on the sheet was
24 signed more than 90 days before the last day for filing the
25 petition. The proposition shall be substantially in the
26 form:
27 Shall township organization be continued in (name of
28 county)?
29 The votes shall be recorded as "Yes" or "No".
30 The petition shall be treated and the proposition
31 certified in the manner provided by the general election law.

1 After the proposition has once been submitted to the
2 electorate, the proposition shall not be resubmitted for 4
3 years.
