Amends the Chicago Firefighter Article of the Pension
Code. Requires the Chicago Municipal pension fund to
transfer to the Chicago Firefighter pension fund certain city
contributions relating to paramedics. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Pension Code by changing
2 Section 6-210.1 and adding Section 6-210.2.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Illinois Pension Code is amended by
6 changing Section 6-210.1 and adding Section 6-210.2 as
7 follows:

9 Sec. 6-210.1. Credit for former employment with the fire
10 department.
11 (a) Any fireman who (1) accumulated service credit in
12 the Article 8 fund for service as an employee of the Chicago
13 Fire Department and (2) has terminated that Article 8 service
14 credit and received a refund of contributions therefor, may
15 establish service credit in this Fund for all or any part of
16 that period of service under the Article 8 fund by making
17 written application to the Board by January 1, 2000 and
18 paying to this Fund (i) employee contributions based upon the
19 actual salary received and the rates in effect for members of
20 this Fund at the time of such service, plus (ii) interest
21 thereon calculated as follows:
22 (1) For applications received by the Board before
23 the effective date of this amendatory Act of 1995,
24 interest shall be calculated on the amount of employee
25 contributions determined under item (i) above, at the
26 rate of 4% per annum, compounded annually, from the date
27 of termination of such service to the date of payment.
28 (2) For applications received by the Board on or
29 after the effective date of this amendatory Act of 1995,
30 interest shall be calculated on the amount of employee
31 contributions determined under item (i) above, at the

1 rate of 4% per annum, compounded annually, from the first
2 date of the period for which credit is being established
3 under this subsection (a) to the date of payment.
4 (b) A fireman who, at any time during the period 1970
5 through 1983, was an employee of the Chicago Fire Department
6 but did not participate in any pension fund subject to this
7 Code with respect to that employment may establish service
8 credit in this Fund for all or any part of that employment by
9 making written application to the Board by January 1, 2000
10 and paying to this Fund (i) employee contributions based upon
11 the actual salary received and the rates in effect for
12 members of this Fund at the time of that employment, plus
13 (ii) interest thereon calculated at the rate of 4% per annum,
14 compounded annually, from the first date of the employment
15 for which credit is being established under this subsection
16 (b) to the date of payment.
17 (c) A fireman may pay the contributions required for
18 service credit under this Section established on or after the
19 effective date of this amendatory Act of 1995 in the form of
20 payroll deductions, in accordance with such procedures and
21 limitations as may be established by Board rule and any
22 applicable rules or ordinances of the employer.
23 The employer shall not be responsible for making any
24 employer contributions for any credit established under this
25 Section.

28 Sec. 6-210.2. City contributions for paramedics.
29 Municipality credits computed and credited under Article 8
30 for any fireman who (1) accumulated service credit in the
31 Article 8 fund for service as a paramedic, (2) has terminated
32 that Article 8 service credit and received a refund of
33 contributions, and (3) is a participant in this Article 6

1 Fund as of the effective date of this amendatory Act of 1997
2 shall be transferred by the Article 8 fund to this Fund with
3 interest up to the date of the transfer. The remaining
4 contributions shall be transferred to the prior service
5 annuity reserve. These city contributions shall be credited
6 to the individual fireman only if he or she pays for prior
7 service as a paramedic in full to this Fund.
8 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
9 becoming law.
