Amends the Freedom of Information Act. Provides that
public bodies shall act with reasonable dispatch to store and
make available public records in electronic form. Provides
that a public body shall indicate which portions of public
records provided in electronic form have been deleted and the
extent of those deletions.

1 AN ACT concerning public records.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Freedom of Information Act is amended by
5 changing Section 8 and adding Section 3.5 as follows:
6 (5 ILCS 140/3.5 new)
7 Sec. 3.5. Public access to electronically-stored
8 records. In making any public records available to any
9 person under this Act, the public body shall provide the
10 record in any form or format requested by the person if the
11 public record is stored or is readily reproducible by the
12 public body in that form or format. Each public body shall
13 act with reasonable dispatch to store and make available
14 public records in its custody in electronic form.

16 Sec. 8. If any public record that is exempt from
17 disclosure under Section 7 of this Act contains any material
18 which is not exempt, the public body shall delete the
19 information which is exempt and make the remaining
20 information available for inspection and copying. Where the
21 deletions are made from public records provided in electronic
22 form, the public body shall indicate which portions of the
23 records have been deleted and the extent of those deletions.

25 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
26 becoming law.
