Amends the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois.
Requires the Department of Public Health to compile the
reports of violent injury and to determine the impact of
violent acts on children. Requires the Department to report
its findings, using only information from which the identity
of an individual cannot be ascertained, reconstructed, or
verified and to which the identity of an individual cannot be
linked by a recipient of the information, to the General
Assembly by December 31, 1997, and every 2 years thereafter.

1 AN ACT to amend the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois
2 by changing Section 55.81.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
6 amended by changing Section 55.81 as follows:
7 (20 ILCS 2310/55.81)
8 Sec. 55.81. Violent injury reporting.
9 (a) The Illinois Department of Public Health shall
10 require hospitals and other facilities in the State to
11 report, in a manner determined by rule, each injury allegedly
12 caused by a violent act. The Illinois Department of Public
13 Health shall coordinate this reporting with existing
14 reporting requirements such as trauma and head and neck
15 injury reporting to reduce duplication of reporting. All
16 information and data reported shall be confidential and
17 privileged in accordance with Part 21 of Article VIII of the
18 Code of Civil Procedure, except as provided in subsection
19 (b).
20 (b) The Illinois Department of Public Health shall
21 compile the reports required under subsection (a) and shall
22 determine the impact of violent acts on children. The
23 Department shall, using only data from which the identity of
24 an individual cannot be ascertained, reconstructed, or
25 verified and to which the identity of an individual cannot be
26 linked by a recipient of the data, report its findings to the
27 General Assembly by December 31, 1997, and every 2 years
28 thereafter.

30 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
