New Act
Creates the State Benefit Fraud Identification Act.
Provides that if a law enforcement agency employee notifies
the State that a municipal, county, or State prisoner has
received public aid or other State benefits or services to
which that prisoner is not entitled, the law enforcement
agency employing the employee is entitled to 5% of the total
value of public aid or other State benefits or services
received by the prisoner during a period of one year but to
which the prisoner was not entitled.

1 AN ACT concerning State benefits.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5 State Benefit Fraud Identification Act.
6 Section 5. Notice of prisoner receiving benefits; award.
7 If an employee of a municipal, county, or State law
8 enforcement agency notifies the State that a person
9 incarcerated in a municipal or county jail or a State
10 correctional facility has while incarcerated received public
11 aid or any other State payment or service to which that
12 incarcerated person is not entitled because of his or her
13 incarceration, then if the public aid or other State payment
14 or service is terminated or reduced based on the information
15 received from that employee, the law enforcement agency that
16 employs that employee is entitled to 5% of the total value of
17 the public aid or other State payments or services received
18 by the incarcerated person during a period of one year but to
19 which the incarcerated person was not entitled. The law
20 enforcement agency may use the amount of the award for
21 payment of its operating expenses.
