Amends the University of Illinois Act. In the provisions
authorizing 50% tuition waivers to children of Illinois
college or university employees if specified conditions are
met, includes as an Illinois college or university employee a
person who is employed by the Hazardous Waste Research and
Information Center or a person employed within any of the 3
divisions of the Department of Natural Resources that carries
out the functions of the Scientific Surveys.

1 AN ACT to amend the University of Illinois Act by
2 changing Section 7f.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The University of Illinois Act is amended by
6 changing Section 7f as follows:
7 (110 ILCS 305/7f) (from Ch. 144, par. 28f)
8 Sec. 7f. Partial tuition waivers.
9 (a) As used in this Section, "Illinois college or
10 university" means any of the following: the University of
11 Illinois, Southern Illinois University, Chicago State
12 University, Eastern Illinois University, Governors State
13 University, Illinois State University, Northeastern Illinois
14 University, Northern Illinois University, and Western
15 Illinois University.
16 (b) Each year the Board of Trustees of the University of
17 Illinois shall offer 50% tuition waivers for undergraduate
18 education at any campus under its governance or supervision
19 to the children of employees of an Illinois college or
20 university who have been employed by any one or by more than
21 one Illinois college or university for an aggregate period of
22 at least 7 years. To be eligible to receive a partial
23 tuition waiver, the child of an employee of an Illinois
24 college or university (i) must be under the age of 25 at the
25 commencement of the academic year during which the partial
26 tuition waiver is to be effective, and (ii) must qualify for
27 admission to the University of Illinois under the same
28 admissions requirements, standards and policies which the
29 University of Illinois applies to applicants for admission
30 generally to its respective undergraduate colleges and
31 programs. For purposes of this Section, an employee of an

1 Illinois college or university shall be deemed to include a
2 person who is employed by the Hazardous Waste Research and
3 Information Center of the Illinois Department of Natural
4 Resources under the Hazardous Waste Technology Exchange
5 Service Act or who is employed within any of the 3 divisions
6 of the Department of Natural Resources that carry out the
7 functions of the Scientific Surveys (State Geological Survey
8 Division, State Natural History Survey Division, and State
9 Water Survey Division) under the authority of the Board of
10 Natural Resources and Conservation.
11 (c) Subject to the provisions and limitations of
12 subsection (b), an eligible applicant who has continued to
13 maintain satisfactory academic progress toward graduation may
14 have his or her partial tuition waiver renewed until the time
15 as he or she has expended 4 years of undergraduate partial
16 tuition waiver benefits under this Section.
17 (d) No partial tuition waiver offered or allocated to
18 any eligible applicant in accordance with the provisions of
19 this Section shall be charged against any tuition waiver
20 limitation established by the Illinois Board of Higher
21 Education.
22 (e) The Board of Trustees shall prescribe rules and
23 regulations as are necessary to implement and administer the
24 provisions of this Section.
