1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives are
3 pleased to recognize the upcoming thirtieth anniversary of
4 Reverend Dr. Ernest Huntzinger as minister of the First
5 Congregational United Church of Christ in Elmhurst, Illinois;
6 and
7 WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Huntzinger previously served as
8 pastor of the First Christian Church UCC in Philadelphia,
9 Pennsylvania from 1962 to 1966 and Associate Minister of the
10 Central Congregational UCC in Topeka, Kansas from 1958
11 through 1962; and
12 WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Huntzinger received his Bachelor of
13 Arts degree in Psychology from Washburn University in Topeka,
14 Kansas; his Master of Divinity from Bangor Theological
15 Seminary in Bangor, Maine; and his Doctor of Ministry from
16 Chicago Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois; and
17 WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Huntzinger holds a yearly worship
18 service for the veterans of the Elmhurst area; performs in
19 many of the community celebrations; was tenor lead in the
20 Kansas Centennial Celebration Story; starred as Captain Von
21 Trapp in the Philadelphia Company presentation of "The Sound
22 of Music", as well as Phil Arkin in the Company's
23 presentation of "Milk and Honey"; performed as an adult
24 member of York High School's presentation of "Shenandoah";
25 and participated in "America Sings" Associated Clubs; and
26 WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Huntzinger has been the Chairperson
27 of Search for Hospital Chaplain; Chairperson of the Elmhurst
28 Minsiterium; active in the Chicago Metropolitan Association
29 of the United Church of Christ; Chairperson of the YMCA
30 Board, as well as being a Board Member Emeritus Standing; and
31 participated in the Elmhurst Fountain Dedication and the
32 Elmhurst Underpass Dedication; and

1 WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Huntzinger participated in the
2 ceremony for Representative Lee Daniels upon his swearing-in
3 as Speaker of the House in 1995; Reverend Dr. Huntzinger led
4 the Illinois House of Representatives in prayer, as well as
5 singing for the gathered body of well wishers; and
6 WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Huntzinger was named Citizen of the
7 Year by the Elmhurst American Legion in 1991; and
8 WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Huntzinger is the author of several
9 manuscripts, poems, and hymns; and
10 WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Huntzinger is the loving husband of
11 Dr. Nancy Huntzinger and the father of two; a son, Erin, and
12 a daughter, Erica; therefore, be it
13 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15 celebrate the life and ministry of Reverend Dr. Ernest H.
16 Huntzinger, and congratulate him on his anniversary; and, be
17 it further
18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to Reverend Dr. Ernest H. Huntzinger.
