1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives have
3 learned of the retirement of Dr. John W. Pollard from the
4 Carle Clinic in Urbana, Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Dr. Pollard received his education at the
6 University of Minnesota, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in
7 1954, a Bachelor of Science degree in 1955, and his Doctorate
8 of Medicine in 1957; Dr. Pollard interned at Valley Forge
9 Army Hospital in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania from 1957 to
10 1958; he spent the years 1959 to 1962 in residency at the
11 Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, specializing in Internal
12 Medicine and Cardiology, in addition to serving as an
13 assistant to the staff of the Mayo Clinic and Foundation from
14 1962 to 1963; in 1977 Dr. Pollard received a Masters in
15 Business Administration from the University of Illinois
16 College of Commerce in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois; and
17 WHEREAS, In 1963, Dr. Pollard began his career in
18 Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Medical Administration at
19 the Carle Clinic in Urbana, Illinois ; and
20 WHEREAS, Dr. Pollard has served as Vice President of
21 Medical Services for The Carle Foundation; was Chief
22 Executive Officer of the Carle Clinic Association from 1979
23 to 1994; was certified by the American Board of Internal
24 Medicine in 1966; received a Fellowship from the American
25 College of Physicians in 1970, a Fellowship from the American
26 College of Cardiology in 1972, and a Distinguished Fellow
27 from the American College of Physician Executives in 1983;
28 and
29 WHEREAS, Dr. Pollard is a member of the American College
30 of Cardiology, the American College of Physician Executives,
31 the American College of Physicians, and the American Medical
32 Association; and

1 WHEREAS, Dr. Pollard received a teaching appointment as a
2 Clinical Professor at the University of Illinois College of
3 Medicine in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois; and
4 WHEREAS, Dr. Pollard has served as President of both the
5 American Group Practice Association and the American College
6 of Physician Executives, as well as being a member of the
7 Medical Group Management Association; and
8 WHEREAS, Dr. Pollard has been an integral part of Carle
9 Clinic over the years; serving recently as Vice President of
10 Medical Affairs for the Carle Foundation Hospital and Senior
11 Vice President of Health Alliance Medical Plans, as well as
12 serving as interim CEO of Health Alliance Medical Plans from
13 July 1995 to March 1996 while the selection of a permanent
14 CEO occurred; and
15 WHEREAS, Dr. Pollard has received many awards, including
16 the American College of Medical Group Administrators
17 Executive Award in 1985, the Yater Award for contributions to
18 group practice from the American Group Practice Association
19 in 1995, and the Carle Physician Excellence Award in 1996;
20 and
21 WHEREAS, Dr. Pollard is the loving husband of Gwen;
22 loving father of four and grandfather of five, in addition to
23 being a foster parent, along with his wife, to over 60
24 children; therefore, be it
25 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
26 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
27 congratulate Dr. John W. Pollard on his retirement, and wish
28 him continued happiness in his future; and be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
30 presented to Dr. John W. Pollard.
