1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, From days to honor those fallen in battle, days
3 to remember heroic presidents of the past, and days to
4 celebrate Christian holidays, the United States sets aside
5 special days to reflect on things that are important to its
6 citizens; and
7 WHEREAS, One very important holiday is Mother's Day, and
8 Mother's Day will be celebrated on Sunday, May 11, 1997; and
9 WHEREAS, Websters Dictionary defines "mother" as someone
10 having a nurturing, protecting, or caring spirit about them;
11 and
12 WHEREAS, On this special day, mothers around the nation
13 will be treated to breakfast in bed, a day off from household
14 chores, boxes of candy, flowers and cards, visits from their
15 children and grandchildren, and are given praise and
16 adoration from their families; and
17 WHEREAS, Mothers sometimes do things for their children
18 that go beyond the norm; mothers give until it hurts; ask for
19 nothing in return; and on this special day we need to
20 remember how important our moms are to each of us; and
21 WHEREAS, One of the greatest sacrifices a mother can make
22 is to send her child into combat; and
23 WHEREAS, Many veterans would not have survived the rigors
24 of combat without the love and support of their mother; and
25 WHEREAS, In his book, "All Her Boys", Springfield author
26 Rich Luttrell recounts the passion of his mother's support
27 during his arduous and heroic tour of duty in Vietnam; and
28 WHEREAS, Rich's mother, Mrs. Wilma Jean Luttrell,
29 "adopted all her boys" from Rich's platoon and offered them
30 the same love, support, and care packages that she gave Rich;

2 WHEREAS, Mrs. Luttrell is symbolic of thousands of
3 mothers who shared their love and support with countless
4 veterans in too many wars; and
5 WHEREAS, We honor all of those mothers by honoring Mrs.
6 Luttrell; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 take time to honor Mrs. Luttrell and the mothers of the State
10 of Illinois and the nation on this Mother's Day, and we
11 salute the hard work and sacrifice they put into their
12 families, especially the mothers of combat veterans; and be
13 it further
14 RESOLVED, That we salute Mrs. Luttrell and all of the
15 moms like her and thank them for the endless love for all
16 their boys and girls; and be it further
17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be read
18 into the record of the Illinois House of Representatives and
19 a copy presented to Mrs. Wilma Jean Luttrell on behalf of the
20 members of the Ninetieth General Assembly.
