1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mrs.
4 Sierra Collins Maize Sheatley; and
5 WHEREAS, Sierra Collins Maize Sheatley was born June 14,
6 1916 in Lake Village, Arkansas; she was a licensed beautician
7 for twenty-five years; she was retired from the University of
8 Illinois; and
9 WHEREAS, Sierra Collins Maize Sheatley was an original
10 member of the Bernadine C. Washington Club, and founder of
11 the Bernadine C. Washington Day in Chicago; she was a member
12 of the 761st Tank Battalion and Allied Veteran Association;
13 she was a life member of the NAACP and a member of the South
14 Shore Community; she was founder of the True Light Baptist
15 Church College Scholarship Fund for underprivileged children;
16 she was an active member of the True Light Baptist Church for
17 forty years; she was an active Committee Person in the Ida B.
18 Wells Community from 1940-1970; she was very active in the
19 South Shore Community from 1970 to the present day; and
20 WHEREAS, Mrs. Collins Maize Sheatley is survived by a son
21 and five daughters; twenty-three grandchildren, and
22 twenty-two great grandchildren; therefore, be it
23 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
24 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
25 mourn, along with her family and friends, the death of Sierra
26 Collins Maize Sheatley; and be it further
27 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
28 presented to the family of Sierra Collins Maize Sheatley with
29 our sincere condolences.
