1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The city of Centralia, Illinois, honors many of
3 its citizens with induction into the Centralia Hall of Fame;
4 and
5 WHEREAS, One such individual is William Ronald Norwood;
6 William Norwood was born in Centralia, Illinois; as a
7 youngster, he attended Lincoln Elementary School and
8 Centralia Township High School; in 1959, William Norwood
9 graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in
10 chemistry; while attending SIU William was the quarterback of
11 the college football team; he went on to receive his MBA from
12 the University of Chicago in 1974; and
13 WHEREAS, From 1959 to 1965, William Norwood served in the
14 United States Air Force, where he flew the B-52; in 1965 he
15 joined United Airlines; he currently flies as a Captain on
16 the DC-10; William Norwood is part of the exhibit, "Black
17 Wings", a permanent part of the Smithsonian Institution
18 National Air and Space Museum; and
19 WHEREAS, William Norwood is involved with many different
20 activities; he has served with the Organization of Black
21 Airline Pilots as treasurer, president, and chairman of the
22 Board; he is a member of Prince of Peace United Methodist
23 Church; he is a member of the SIU Board of Trustees; he is
24 the Immediate Past President and former treasurer of the
25 State Universities Retirement System Board; he is active with
26 the Illinois Committee on Black Concerns in Higher Education;
27 he is also a member of the United Airlines Speakers' Panel,
28 Airline Pilots Association, the NAACP, and several other
29 organizations; and
30 WHEREAS, William Norwood is married to Molly Cross
31 Norwood; they have two adult children, Bill, Jr., and George;
32 therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3 salute William Norwood on his induction into the Centralia
4 Hall of Fame; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to William Norwood.
