1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives send their sincere condolences to the family
4 and friends of Patricia Moore-Wiley, who passed away on
5 October 22, 1997; and
6 WHEREAS, Patricia Moore-Wiley was born in Chicago,
7 Illinois on April 3, 1942; her parents were William O. Moore
8 and Grace Bolden Moore; Patricia Moore attended Gillespie
9 Elementary School, Calumet High School, and Wilson Jr.
10 College; she had a long and distinguished career as an
11 accountant, working at Illinois Central for some three
12 decades; and
13 WHEREAS, Patricia Moore married Robert Wiley in November
14 of 1969; and
15 WHEREAS, Patricia Moore-Wiley was highly visible and
16 active in the community; among her many activities were those
17 of treasurer for Alderman John O. Steele; she was widely
18 known and respected throughout the 6th Ward and beyond,
19 primarily for her fundraising efforts on behalf of
20 organizations such as Operation PUSH and the National
21 Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP);
22 she worked tirelessly for neighborhood businesses,
23 voluntarily raising money to help pay employees who otherwise
24 would have been momentarily suspended or out of work; her
25 civic-mindedness led her to participate in the campaigns and
26 elections of Roland Burris, the first African-American
27 elected to statewide office in Illinois, and the late Harold
28 Washington, the City of Chicago's first African-American
29 Mayor; and
30 WHEREAS, Patricia Moore-Wiley leaves behind to cherish
31 her memory her husband Robert, their daughter Kenya, her
32 stepson Tony, her stepmother Doris, her sisters Sandra and

1 Debi, and her brothers Bill and Gregory, in addition to many
2 other relatives and friends; therefore, be it
3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5 mourn the death of Patricia Moore-Wiley; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to the family of Patricia Moore-Wiley, along with
8 our deepest sympathy in this time of need.
