1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate John Kuntz on his
4 retirement as the Iroquois County Clerk; and
5 WHEREAS, For nineteen years, John Kuntz has served
6 Iroquois County as the county clerk; Mr. Kuntz has worked
7 hard to shape his office into a suitable control center; Mr.
8 Kuntz has overseen the updating of county records, taking the
9 records dating back to the beginning of the County in 1833
10 and putting them into a computer base; and
11 WHEREAS, John Kuntz took on extra duties in 1981 when the
12 consolidated election law went into effect; municipal,
13 township, and school board elections all became a part of Mr.
14 Kuntz's job; his office is now overseeing five elections in a
15 two-year period; Mr. Kuntz also worked to implement the voter
16 registration act of 1993; and
17 WHEREAS, John Kuntz has been president of the Illinois
18 Association of County Clerks and Recorders, and has been a
19 member of the legislative committee for twenty years; Mr.
20 Kuntz has served on the Illinois State Board of Elections
21 Advisory Committee since its formation in 1980; John Kuntz
22 oversaw the change from paper ballots in his area, to the
23 current punch cards; Mr. Kuntz spent 1979 talking to clubs
24 and organizations about the change to the punch card system,
25 and has seen smooth elections ever since; and
26 WHEREAS, John Kuntz received his Bachelor's Degree in
27 business education from Illinois State University and his
28 Master's Degree from National College in Evanston; and
29 WHEREAS, John Kuntz taught and coached in the Danforth
30 Grade School system from 1958 to 1960 and at Onarga Community
31 Unit School District #1 from 1960 to 1978; and

1 WHEREAS, John Kuntz plans to return to private life on
2 December 1, 1997; therefore, be it
3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5 congratulate John Kuntz on his retirement as Iroquois County
6 Clerk; John Kuntz has served his community well, and deserves
7 this opportunity to relax and enjoy his family; and be it
8 further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to John Kuntz.
