1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Ravinia School on their
4 100th birthday; and
5 WHEREAS, Ravinia School was once a two-room schoolhouse
6 situated on the corner of Roger Williams Avenue and Dean
7 Avenue; from its beginning on September 11, 1897 until 1928,
8 the little two-room schoolhouse served the children of the
9 area; and
10 WHEREAS, The first unit of the current building, a
11 two-story brick addition, was added in 1913 to the two-room
12 schoolhouse; in 1928 the original structure was razed, and a
13 new addition was built on the original's former site; the new
14 addition was designed by John Van Bergen, a resident of
15 Ravinia and an architect of the Prairie School; and
16 WHEREAS, Ravinia was remodeled in 1960; it stands as a
17 architectural and historically significant building in the
18 community; it is a distinguished building, with a brick and
19 ivy entrance, many classrooms with fireplaces, a gymnasium,
20 and a library with a vaulted ceiling; it is in the midst of
21 four acres of parkland, and serves kindergarten through fifth
22 grades; and
23 WHEREAS, Ravinia School is known for its work in art and
24 music and for an excellent curriculum; Ravinia School is a
25 proud part of Highland Park, Illinois; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
28 congratulate Ravinia School on the 100th anniversary of its
29 founding; and be it further
30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
31 presented to Ravinia School.
