1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to convey their sincere sympathies to
4 the family of Ira Colitz, president of the 42nd Ward regular
5 Democratic organization in Chicago and a former State
6 Representative from 1970 to 1972; and
7 WHEREAS, Ira Colitz grew up on Chicago's West Side; in
8 1929 he started working for his father's business, Central
9 Iron and Metal Co.; Mr. Colitz joined the United States Army
10 in World War II, where he served in the European theatre; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Colitz owned and operated the Cloverbar
12 Lounge and the Rialto Rail Saloon and worked for a beer
13 distributor before joining Near North Insurance; in 1970 he
14 became a State Representative where he helped enact the
15 Homestead Exemption Act; Ira Colitz was a former member of
16 the Cook County Zoning Board of Appeals; he was vice
17 president of the Northwest Home for the Aged; and
18 WHEREAS, Ira Colitz is survived by his two sisters, Viola
19 Stein and Elaine Hancock, and his two brothers, Jerome Colitz
20 and Ivan Colitz; therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
22 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
23 mourn, along with his family and friends, the death of Ira
24 Colitz of Chicago, Illinois; and be it further
25 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
26 presented to the family of Ira Colitz.
